Dear Friend,
The first Key in The Book of Knowledge: The Keys of Enoch® tells us our universe is “open-ended”, by which we understand that it is adaptable to change, having no fixed limits, and ultimately providing for an “on-going” future of opportunities. Some of this appears to be borne out by what astronomers have been recently exploring. NASA and ESA astrophysicists inspired by the work of Nobel Laureates Saul Perlmutter and Adam Riess have reported that the universe is expanding 5-9% faster than had previously been postulated1. They measured this according to star death luminosity and the pulsing of Cepheid stars, two cosmic yardsticks, and found that the distance was more than the Hubble constant which measures the expansion of the universe. This new value “comes out to 45.5 miles (73.2 kilometers) per second per megaparsec. (One megaparsec is equivalent to 3.26 million light-years.) Therefore, the distance between cosmic objects should double 9.8 billion years from now, the researchers said”.2 The universe, thus, is not only expanding but the expansion is accelerating. It would make more sense if the attractive force of gravity resulted in slowing down the expansion, but observations do not support this.
Scientists have theorised “dark energy” (that repels gravity) accounts for the universal expansion and it turns out that roughly 68% of the universe may be composed of it. Another option under consideration for expansion and acceleration is that dark energy is quantum vacuum energy (where w [the ratio of dark energy to pressure in the universe] will be -1). Another is the existence of neutrinos and a yet to be seen particle called the acceleron, the scalar field which mediates the dark energy force between neutrinos. Neutrinos are created by the trillions of reactions in the nuclear fusion of stars and there seems to be a link between the dark energy and the neutrino mass. In this new theory, neutrinos and accelerons together may account for why dark energy tries to pull neutrinos apart, fueling the expansion of the universe.3
Why is it good that the universe is expanding? We are told in Exodus that a Name for God is I AM that I AM or I Shall Be what I Shall Be. The latter implies ongoing creation and recreation. The Keys of Enoch® further tells us that the light of this system of things needs to be purified.4 So perhaps this expansion is to provide the space for these levels of transformation.
Also on a spiritual level, the open-endedness of our universe links to the open-endedness also of our Minds and to the open-endedness of creation and to the Eternal Divine Mind. So what is our role as conscious beings? Key 3-0-9:7 talks of our role in this expansion as participants in an ongoing process of growth of the soul, the mind and our concept of space and our consciousness of the larger universe.
